Favorites > Lists > Books with a touch of horror

Okay, saying a "touch" of horror is probably understating it. But I don't read so-called "horror" books, so these are not labeled as such, and yet ... well, I don't read horror, so I can't compare them, but I guess, the point is that they are great stories in their own right. It just so happens that there is, shall we say, a definite horror component.

[As I said before, there's no point in reiterating a lot of description - Amazon does it so much better than me; so I've provided links (the images, or text links where no image is available) to the appropriate pages in Amazon.]

Ray Bradbury

Something Wicked This Way Comes

I still remember reading this for the first time in the university dining hall - place filled with noisy students, me completely immersed, in a chills-down-my-spine way; when a friend tapped me on the shoulder, I nearly had a heart attack! (in fact I'm not sure I ever had the courage to read it a second time! but it was over 25 years ago, and I remember it still)

Orson Scott Card

Unaccompanied Sonata and other stories

Not a novel, but a collection of short stories which contained a couple of short stories that really sent a shiver down my spine!

Barbara Hambly

The Darwath Trilogy
